About "The Big Crunch":
I woke up early on Thanksgiving morning 1997 and started thawing the bird. I had one more song to write and record for "Deep Sky." I had been thinking about the title "The Big Crunch" for some time, but I had been busy recording the other tracks. I had to kill sometime before the bird went into the oven so I decided to write this one about Hawking's strange premise of time running backwards. It took 20 minutes - I recorded it with two buddies the next day. It is most everyone's favorite song on the CD.

When Time is running backwards and the earth spins in reverse
Will history repeat itself, will everything seem worse?
Will we still be wondering about the chicken and the egg,
And will I get a milkbone when my dog sits up and begs?

Will we take the paper and make it back into trees,
Make big ones out of little ones grow sweaty in the breeze?
Will I spit out gumballs and put them in my bank?
And what of all the water, beer and coffee that I drank?

Will we see dead friends and family grow stronger every day,
Still work all of those hours when we've already been paid?
Will we put back all the ozone, will we take down every fence?
Will revolution # 9 make any more sense?

Will Jack Ruby bring back Oswald to bring back JFK?
Will there finally be a last time "Margaritaville" will play?
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust will stay the same
And now predestination will take all the blame.
